Your website is great, I've already sold my jeep. I got a ton of hits from all over the country. I also posted it on Craiglist here locally and got less than 10 inquiries. But I got numerous hits daily from people on your site. Thanks for everything. David Knox

Exploring the World in a Ford GPA SEEP
As part of the original 1940 specifications for the jeep, the army included a desire for the vehicle to have 'Amphibian characteristics'. This capability was dropped during the development phase. However, in 1941, once jeep prototypes had been ordered, the military revisited the need for a jeep-like amphibious vehicle.... Like many other military vehicles, leftover GPAs were sold as surplus. Several would-be adventurers thought, with a few modifications, the vehicles could prove useful for traveling long distances. read more ......
The Airborne Lightweight Jeep Program
During World War II, getting vehicles, especially Jeeps, onto the ground where military personnel could utilize them was of paramount importance for obvious reasons. But, how to accomplish that goal was less clear. A variety of strategies were considered, including turning jeeps into gliders (see bottom of article) or helicopters (rotabuggy) so they could fly themselves. However, both of these ideas proved unsuccessful. Therefore, the military chose to stick with transporting vehicles by plane. In order to make flights more efficient, they formed a plan to produce light duty, air-droppable jeeps. They called these jeeps extra lights (EL), lightweight jeeps or jeeplets. read more ......
The O.E. Szekely Mobile APU Navy Jeeps
Like the other branches of the military, the Navy adopted the jeep early on as a valuable 'Reconnaissance Car'. Certainly, many Navy jeeps filled the recon role, such as serving officers as transport vehicles or providing shore patrol units with offroad capabilities. However, one particular application of the jeep was unique to the Navy: The use of jeeps as APU (Auxilary Power Units) on aircraft carriers.

of a different kind...
The World War II Weekend in Reading, PA is one of the finest displays of World War II military vehicles and war birds. Andy's Bantam Jeep trailer wasn't like any we had ever seen before. The Bantam Jeep trailer had been converted into a military mobile homing pigeon loft.

Help a WWII Army veteran who needs ride in a WWII Jeep I am an Army veteran living in Colorado. My grandfather is a WWII Army veteran that lives in southern Michigan. I am trying to find a Willys jeep owner to give my grandfather, one last ride. Grandpa is getting older and this is something he deserves and I have been wanting to do for some time. Would you happen to have a point of contact in Michigan that owns a 1940's Army jeep that would be willing to give a WWII vet a ride? Any lead would be great.
